What Rize Does
Rize is a privacy-first automatic time tracker that runs in the background on macOS and Windows. It captures metadata about your active window -- app name, window title, URL, and timestamps -- then uses AI to turn that activity into reviewable time entries tagged to your clients, projects, and tasks.
No screenshots. No keystrokes. No window contents. Just metadata.
Install and Sign Up
- Download Rize from rize.io/downloads for macOS or Windows
- Create your account or sign in
- Grant the required permissions (macOS: Accessibility and Screen Recording in System Settings > Privacy & Security)
- Rize starts tracking automatically
Your First Day
Once Rize is running, it immediately begins capturing your activity. Here is what to do next:
- Review your dashboard -- time entries appear on the calendar in real time as you work
- Click a time entry to open the review panel -- you will see a description, tag suggestions, and context tabs
- Approve or correct the AI suggestions to teach Rize your patterns
- Add clients and projects if you bill by client -- this gives Rize better context for future suggestions
Set Up Your Tracking Schedule
Go to Settings > Activity > Automatic Tracking Schedule to match your work hours. Rize will automatically start and stop tracking on the schedule you set.
If you prefer to track 24/7, leave it at the default.
Install Browser Extensions
Rize tracks tab activity more accurately with browser extensions installed. Available for Chrome and Firefox -- install from Settings > Integrations.
What to Do in Week 1
- Review entries daily -- the more you correct, the faster Rize learns
- Create tracking rules for recurring patterns (Settings > Tracking Rules)
- Connect your task tracker (ClickUp, Linear, or Asana) to improve tag suggestions
- Set up categories to organize your activity log
The key to accuracy is early corrections. Rize improves with every reviewed entry.
