Does Rize work on Windows?
Yes. Rize ships a native Windows desktop app alongside the macOS app. It tracks the active window in the background, uses AI to assign each work session to a client, project, and task, and syncs to the same dashboard at app.rize.io that Mac users see.
The Windows app is not a port with fewer features. Automatic tracking, AI categorization, the desktop widget, focus and break analytics, reports and exports, integrations, team workspaces, the GraphQL API, and the MCP server are all available on Windows. Rules can target Windows app names directly (Settings > Rules > "Add a rule for an app based on the name" > Windows).
What are the system requirements?
Rize for Windows needs Windows 10 (version 10.0.0) or later on a 64-bit PC. Windows 11 is fully supported. The installer is a code-signed .exe.
There is no minimum RAM or CPU beyond what Windows itself needs. Rize reads window metadata (app name, window title, URL), not screen pixels, so it is light on resources and safe to leave running all day.
How do I install Rize on Windows?
Install takes a couple of minutes and needs no system permission prompts.
- Download the Windows installer from app.rize.io/downloads.
- Run the
.exe. Rize installs and opens automatically. - Sign in, or create an account with your email. A free trial starts with full access and no credit card.
- Rize begins tracking right away. Your first entries appear on the timeline within a minute of working.
- Optional: install the Rize Chrome extension or Firefox extension so website URLs are tracked, not just the browser window title. Both extensions require the desktop app to be running.
Turn on "Open at login" in Settings so tracking resumes after a restart. Full onboarding steps are in Getting Started.
How does Windows tracking compare to macOS?
Tracking works the same way on both platforms, with two differences in setup.
- No permission prompts on Windows. macOS requires Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions before Rize can read window titles, plus an Automation permission per browser for URLs. Windows needs none of these, so the app tracks immediately after sign-in.
- Browser URLs come from the extension. On Windows, Rize tracks browser window titles natively and uses the Chrome or Firefox extension to capture the URL of the active tab. On macOS, URLs come through the Automation permission instead.
One privacy note: Rize never records the window title in incognito or private mode on Chrome, Edge, Brave, Firefox, and Opera. Other browsers on Windows do not expose that state, so use one of those five for private browsing. Details are in Privacy and Security.
Can I use Rize on both a PC and a Mac?
Yes. Sign in on each machine with the same account. Time tracked on each device lands in one timeline, and reports combine them automatically. Many users run Rize on a Windows work PC and a personal MacBook and switch between them without touching a setting.
Is Rize a fit for personal time tracking on Windows?
