How Rize Bills a Team
A Rize team plan is billed per seat, where a seat is one active person in your organization. There is no separate "buy seats" step -- your subscription tracks the people who currently have access and updates as your team changes.
Organization admins can check seat usage at any time: the Members page shows seat and pending-invite summary cards at the top.
Adding a Seat
Inviting a member adds a seat.
- Open the Members page and click New Member
- Enter their email, assign them to a team, and set their role
- Rize adds the seat and charges it at a prorated rate for the rest of the current billing period
Because seats are prorated, a mid-cycle hire only costs the time they actually use -- you are never billed for a full period you did not use. A pending invitation holds a seat from the moment you send it.
Freeing a Seat
Seat count never drops on its own -- freeing a seat is always a deliberate action, so you stay in control of what you pay for. To reduce your seats, deactivate the member:
- Open the member's edit sheet on the Members page
- Choose Deactivate -- their access is removed and the seat is freed
- All of their time entries, rates, and history are preserved
If the person returns, reactivating restores their access and team memberships exactly as they were, and takes the seat back.
Two things that are easy to confuse:
- Removing someone from a single team leaves them in your organization, so it does not free a seat.
- Deactivating is what frees a seat. For an invite that hasn't been accepted yet, the action is Remove, which revokes the invitation and frees the seat.
Rize never lets you deactivate the last organization admin.
Managing Your Subscription
Your plan and payment details live in Settings > Account, where an organization admin can update or cancel the subscription. In practice you rarely need to go there -- day-to-day seat changes happen automatically as you invite and deactivate members.
Seats vs. Client Billing Rates
Rize uses the word "billing" in two unrelated places:
- Your subscription -- what your organization pays Rize, priced per seat. This guide.
- Client billing rates -- how you value the work your team tracks for clients (member or client hourly rates used for invoicing and profitability). These do not affect your seat count.
