How Rize billing works

Prices are in USD. Last updated .

Free trial7 days with full access and no credit card. If you have not added a card when the trial ends, the trial closes and you are not charged.
Billing periodsMonthly, quarterly, or annual. Quarterly and annual plans are billed up front for the full period. Annual is the cheapest per month.
Team seats$39.99/seat/month monthly or quarterly, $29.99/seat/month annual, 2-seat minimum. Adding a seat charges the prorated difference right away. Removing a seat lowers the next bill and does not issue a credit.
Plan changesUpgrading a paid plan bills the prorated difference immediately. Changes during a trial are not prorated.
AI creditsEach plan includes a monthly AI credit allotment for chat, reports, automations, and agents. Credit packs add prepaid credits. When both run out, AI pauses until the next period unless an admin turns on auto-reload, which bills extra credits at $0.02 each up to a monthly limit the admin sets. Time tracking never stops.
Credit packsOne-time top-ups: 500 credits for $10, 1,000 credits for $20, 2,000 credits for $30, 4,000 credits for $50.
CancellationCancel anytime from Settings > Account. The plan stays active until the end of the paid period, and paid fees are not refunded or prorated.
After you cancelYou keep access to your account and can export past data. New activity is not tracked.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rize is built for agencies, consultancies, and professional services firms that bill by the hour and need time attributed to clients and projects without manual timers. Freelancers and individuals use the Basic, Pro, and Max plans to track their own time automatically.

If you decide to stop paying for Rize, you can retain access to your account and export past data. However, any new activity going forward will not be tracked.

Rize was created by Will Goto and Macgill Davis. Together, they previously cofounded and ran a VC-backed startup for 3 years with over $3.1 million in funding.

Will has a background in front-end software engineering and design with work experience at Twitter, Periscope, and numerous early stage startups.

Macgill focuses primarily on back-end software engineering with work experience at Twitter and Peer. Previously, he cofounded and sold a company called GuideHire in Boston.

Rize is a macOS and Windows app that automatically captures time spent on your desktop's focused window. For websites, it will connect and request the current url to help categorize any time spent in browsers.

For meetings, Rize allows you to integrate your Google Calendar to capture time in meetings even if your focused window is not the video call. This is helpful if you are presenting or multi-tasking.

Rize's individual plans range from $12.99–$49.99/month, or $9.99–$39.99/month with annual billing. Team plans are $39.99/seat/month, or $29.99/seat/month with annual billing. Annual billing saves up to 25%.

Choose Basic if you only want an automatic record of your own workday, Pro if you are a freelancer or consultant who sends client reports, and Max if you run a solo agency and use AI automations every day. Choose Team for 2 or more people who need shared dashboards, burn, and client profitability. Choose Enterprise for large rollouts that need SSO, SCIM, and a security review.

Yes. Rize offers a free trial with full access to all features — no credit card required. You can track time, set up categories, and see reports before committing to a plan.

Rize offers a free 7-day trial with full feature access. After the trial, individual plans start at $9.99/month (Basic, billed annually) or $12.99/month billed monthly. There is no permanently free tier, but you can export all your data at any time.

Subscription fees are nonrefundable and are not prorated when you cancel. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for. Cancel from Settings > Account before your renewal date to avoid the next charge.

Team is billed per seat with a 2-seat minimum: $39.99/seat/month on monthly or quarterly billing, or $29.99/seat/month billed annually. Adding a seat charges the prorated difference right away. Removing a seat lowers your next bill and does not issue a credit.

AI features pause until your next billing period. To keep going, buy a one-time credit pack (from 500 credits for $10 to 4,000 credits for $50), upgrade your plan, or have an admin turn on auto-reload, which bills extra credits at $0.02 each up to a monthly limit you set. Time tracking never stops.

Monthly billing offers the most flexibility, while annual billing lowers the monthly equivalent. Annual billing saves up to 25% on Team plans and up to 23% on individual plans. Quarterly billing is also available at a smaller discount, and you can switch billing periods at any time from your account settings.

Rize is not employee monitoring. It does not record screens, log keystrokes, or track mouse movement, and by default it captures metadata only — app names, URLs, and window titles — to categorize where time goes. Screen content is read only if you opt into Screen Text and grant it per person, and even then only that person can read what it captured. Team members review and approve their own time data before managers see it.

Yes. Rize has dedicated team and enterprise plans with manager dashboards, per-client and per-project time breakdowns, billable hour tracking, profitability reporting, and CSV/PDF export. Agencies use Rize to track billable hours automatically across clients without requiring anyone to start a timer.

Rize is currently available for macOS (Mojave 10.14.6 or later) and Windows (Windows 10 or later). Support for Linux will be coming soon.

On macOS, Rize supports all major browsers including Google Chrome, Safari, Brave Browser, Microsoft Edge, Arc, SigmaOS, Mighty and many more.

Rize tracks time spent on unsupported browsers, but is unable to categorize any activity by URL within the browser.

Yes. After signing up, you can share your referral code to give your friends one free month of Rize. You will also receive one free month of Rize for each friend that becomes a subscriber.

For those with considerable audiences, we have a partner program where you can earn 40% of any recurring subscription payments from your referrals.

Your data is hosted on Amazon Web Services, protected both physically and electronically. Your data is only accessible through your personal password-protected account, and any data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Our database generates backups of our data at least twice a day for redundancy.

Our team has engineering experience from top technology companies like Twitter and Periscope. Security is not an afterthought for us; we design, develop, and ship code with security as a top consideration.
