We’re excited to introduce AI-Powered Auto-Categorization, a major update that fully automates time tracking in Rize. Previously, Rize categorized known apps and websites, while providing recommendations for unknown ones after at least 10 minutes of use. However, users still had to manually confirm or adjust these suggestions.
With this update, Rize now automatically categorizes all apps and websites based on your job title after just two minutes of usage, even if no existing rule exists. This means more accurate tracking, fewer uncategorized apps, and less manual work.
How It Works
When you spend two minutes in an app or website that Rize has not previously categorized, our AI assigns it a category based on your job title and existing classification data.
Once categorized, a tracking rule is automatically created in your settings. This means Rize will continue to categorize the app or website the same way in the future, unless you choose to adjust it.
If you’d like to refine any auto-categorized apps, you can edit or override the rule in Settings > Tracking Rules.
Recalibrate Your Tracking Rules
To give users even more control, we’ve also added a Recalibrate Tracking Rules button. This allows you to reset all your categorization rules based on your current job title.
If you choose to recalibrate, you’ll have the option to wipe past categories or keep existing ones.
This is especially useful if your role has changed or if you want Rize to automatically reclassify your apps and websites based on new AI improvements.
Customization and Edge Cases
While AI handles most categorization automatically, Rize still gives you the ability to manually fine-tune your tracking:
Advanced Mappings – For edge cases, you can create custom tracking rules based on keywords in the window title or URL sub-paths.
Custom Rules Persist – Once an AI-generated rule is created, it stays in place until you manually adjust it.
Why This Matters
This update significantly reduces the effort needed to maintain an accurate time-tracking setup. Instead of constantly sorting new apps, you can focus on your work while Rize organizes everything in the background. Over time, this leads to more accurate reports, better productivity insights, and a truly automated tracking experience.
AI Auto-Categorization is available today. Just keep using Rize as usual, and the AI will handle the rest.
