What Rize does
Rize replaces manual timers and timesheets with background capture, AI categorization, and reports built for billing. Everything below runs from the same tracked data.
Automatic time capture
Rize records which apps, websites, documents, and meetings are active on macOS and Windows, with nothing to start or stop. Hours land in the timeline as they happen instead of being reconstructed from memory at the end of the week.
AI categorization
Rize assigns each work session to a client, project, and category using tag rules and AI, then finalizes the entry. Users review exceptions rather than logging every block by hand, which is what keeps tracked time close to worked time.
Team and profitability reporting
Manager dashboards show utilization, billable versus non-billable split, and margin per client and project. Client-ready PDF and CSV reports export directly from tracked data, so invoices come from what actually happened.
Integrations, API, and MCP server
Rize connects to ClickUp, Linear, Asana, Notion, Google Calendar, and Outlook, and exposes time data through an API, webhooks, Zapier, and an MCP server. Claude, ChatGPT, and other agents can query and act on time data directly.

What makes Rize different
Capture does not depend on remembering a timer
Toggl Track, Harvest, and Clockify record time only when someone starts a timer, and industry research puts forgotten-timer losses at 10 to 30 percent of billable hours. Rize captures in the background, so coverage does not fall when a team gets busy.
No screenshots, keystrokes, or screen recordings
Hubstaff and Time Doctor monitor employees with screenshots and activity scores. Rize tracks which applications and websites are active, not what is typed or seen, and stores no screenshot images by default.
Entries are finalized, not drafted for review
Timely and Memtime also capture activity automatically, but they produce drafts a person approves each day. Rize categorizes and finalizes entries itself, and adds focus analytics and agent access on top of the same data.
Profitability is a report, not an export
Most trackers report hours and leave margin to a spreadsheet. Rize combines tracked time with cost and bill rates to show profitability per client, project, and person inside the product.
No minimum contract
Every self-serve plan bills monthly, quarterly, or annually with no minimum term, and starts with a 7-day trial that needs no credit card. Only Enterprise plans use custom contracts. Rize is bootstrapped and has been profitable since 2022, so the roadmap answers to customers rather than a funding cycle.

The team behind Rize
Rize was founded in San Francisco in September 2020 by Macgill Davis and Will Goto. The two met as engineers at Peer, then co-founded Humble Dot, a venture-backed startup building tools for managers that raised $3.1 million and shut down in 2020 after three years without product-market fit.
They spent the following months interviewing engineers about what got in the way of their work. Knowing where their time went was the problem that came up most, so they built Rize to answer it automatically. Rize launched on Product Hunt in May 2021, has been bootstrapped from the start, and has been profitable since 2022.
Today Rize is a small, remote-first team of engineers and operators that has served more than 20,000 paying customers since 2020. The people who build the product are the same people who run demos and answer support.

Onboarding
Team plans include dedicated onboarding to set up clients, projects, and tag rules so the first week of data is already categorized. Enterprise customers get a dedicated account manager, custom onboarding, and team training.
